Group Insurance

Working on Wheels has three group insurance policies of interest to member organisations. These are:
  • Motor for project vehicles,
  • Loose contents
  • Combined Liability (Employer's and Public)

All three policies have an annual renewal date of the 31st March. Members may be added to the Policies at any time during the year and the premium is calculated pro rata until 31st March the following year.

Our insurers have identified that the Motor Policy could be vulnerable from secondary claims made under any other uninsured risks (i.e. risks that would normally be covered by Employer's or Public liability insurance).  If you only require motor insurance you will be required to provide evidence of your present Employer's & Public Liability cover.

Motor Insurance

Working on Wheels has had a Motor Fleet Policy since 1993, which has been administered by Graham Brown Insurance Brokers Limited. In this time, Graham Brown staff have come to understand the particular insurance needs of mobile projects. They also appreciate that premium levels are of prime concern to all, but in particular to smaller community groups who operate on limited funding. In 2005 Graham Brown merged with a larger broker to become Aston Scott Ltd.

The Motor Policy has been arranged with the Royal & Sun Alliiance and the rate of the annual premium is calculated taking account of the value of the vehicle and the permanent fixtures and fittings. The policy is only available to group members of the National Playbus Association (not individual) and is usually provided on a fully comprehensive basis. It is subject to a standard excess of £250 (£400 if the driver is under 25 years old) on any claim. Third Party cover only is available on request.

The Working on Wheels Motor Fleet Policy does not cover minibuses and other vehicles that are used purely for the carriage of passengers. Provision is made within the Policy for the carriage of up to 8 non fare paying passengers (on the lower deck if the vehicle is a double decker) in addition to the driver who are paid or voluntary staff of the organisation.

All drivers have to be accepted by the Insurers - each prospective driver needs to supply details of their driving experience, any previous claims or driving convictions. All drivers should be 21 years old or over, hold a current licence with the appropriate category for the type and weight of vehicle to be driven. In the case of converted vehicles that qualify as Mobile Project Vehicles (as defined in the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations 1999) that may, with certain qualifications, be driven by the holder of a Category B (car) licence, the prospective driver must declare that they have practical experience of driving large vehicles. This should include a minimum of 15 hours instruction from a qualified large vehicle driving instructor if the vehicle is over 3.5 tonnes GVM.  Drivers can be added to the Policy at any time by completing an Additional Driver's Form obtainable from Aston Scott.

The rate of premiums is shown below. They are reviewed annually in line with any motor insurance policy and the value of claims made against the group policy influences the premiums set for the following year.
A guide to annual premiums 1st April 2012 to 31st March 2013

Motor Policy

Minimum driver age 21 years
Policy Excess £250 plus an additional £150 if driver is under 25 years old.

Rating Scale
The rating will be based on the total value of the vehicle and the permanent fixtures and fittings of the vehicles combined.

Total value up to £35,000
Premium = £1,250 plus insurance premium tax (6%)

For vehicles valued at over £35,000 the additional premium is calculated at 2.25% on value above that figure.

Example:

Total Value £50,000

Premium calculation will be as follows:

Base Premium =                                   £ 1,250
Excess Premium
£50,000 less £35,000 = £15,000
£15,000 @ 2.25% =                              £    337.50
Base Premium + Excess Premium =       £ 1,587.50
Premium payable =                               £ 1,587.50 plus I.P.Tax (6%)

Broker Assistance

If you require accident management and assistance to try and recover any uninsured losses then this is available at £20 plus I.P. Tax (6%) per vehicle.

Loose Contents Insurance

Loose contents used on the vehicle (computers, DVD players etc)
Premium = 5.25% of sum insured plus insurance premium tax (6%)

Loose contents used in the office (computers, photocopiers etc)
Premium = 2.65% of sum insured plus insurance premium tax (6%)
